La isla refuerza su apuesta por la excelencia con la renovación de su Plan Estratégico Promocional y la consolidación como referente europeo para la práctica de actividades en contacto con la naturaleza.
Casimiro Curbelo subraya la repercusión que tiene el sector en la economía insular de la que aglutina el 34% del empleo y genera 133 millones de euros en ingresos.
María Isabel Méndez adelanta que el turismo nacional se incrementó un 7,3% el pasado año.
La Gomera participa desde este miércoles en la XL edición de la Feria Internacional de Turismo de Madrid (FITUR), en la que presenta su oferta como destino de excelencia en Turismo Activo, una nueva apuesta por la diversificación del sector y la potenciación de una oferta diseñada para fortalecer la llegada de turistas a la isla, especialmente, del mercado nacional, que el pasado año creció en un 7,3%.
En el transcurso de la jornada inaugural, el presidente del Cabildo, Casimiro Curbelo, aludió a la relevancia que tiene el sector en el tejido económico insular al que inyectó 133 millones de euros, generó el 34% del empleo durante 2019 y son más de 380 las empresas vinculadas directamente. “Este es nuestro principal músculo económico y debemos entenderlo como un espacio para abrir nuevas oportunidades, tanto en la oferta como en los mercados emisores”, afirmó.
La apuesta de la isla en el marco de la sostenibilidad también se traslada al turismo. Curbelo describió la realidad del desarrollo turístico insular, que ha estado vinculado a un proceso sostenible en el tiempo y también en su impacto en el territorio. En este sentido, recordó que con la regulación de las viviendas vacacionales se logró incorporar casi 2.000 plazas alojativas sin consumir nuevo suelo. “Se trata de uno de los mayores logros alcanzados en este tiempo y con el que confirmamos la idea de un destino alternativo”, dijo.
Curbelo reconoció los desafíos a los que ha tenido que hacer frente el turismo durante el último año, pero aseguró que las complicaciones surgidas “son una buena forma de prepararnos y hacer más fuerte al destino”. “La caída de Thomas Cook y la pérdida de plazas aéreas tuvieron su repercusión, pero el trabajo conjunto entre la Consejería de Turismo del Gobierno de Canarias con el Estado y los cabildos se ha reflejado en potentes medidas que han mermado las consecuencias de estas situaciones”, afirmó, antes de reconocer que las particularidades de venta y gestión de los alojamientos de La Gomera han hecho que sea una de las menos afectadas.
Cinco días para conocer La Gomera en FITUR
La incorporación del nuevo mapa de senderos con medio centenar de rutas, además de las dedicadas al cicloturismo; la renovación del Plan Estratégico Promocional o la participación, por primera vez, de una delegación de empresas de Turismo Activo, son algunas de las principales novedades que lleva la isla a FITUR y que se unen a un stand cargado de elementos informativos y promocionales.
La consejera de Turismo, María Isabel Méndez, destacó la inclusión de la delegación de empresas de Turismo Activo dentro del programa de actividades previsto en la feria. Para la ocasión, la participación de estas empresas está enmarcado en la presentación de un nuevo tríptico informativo sobre sus actividades. Entre las novedades, destaca el inicio de un concurso para obtener actividades prestadas por estas empresas. Los visitantes al stand podrán participar al depositar los boletos en las urnas que estarán disponibles a partir de esta feria.
“Es una forma de incentivar este segmento y que los turistas que llegan a La Gomera conozcan la amplia oferta de la que disponemos, más allá del sol y playa”, precisó Méndez, quien adelantó la puesta en marcha de una nueva guía de alojamientos que se diseña actualmente con la incorporación de más establecimientos y referencias directas al Turismo Activo.

La jornada inaugural coincidió con la entrega a la isla del galardón como Destino de Excelencia de Turismo Activo que otorga la Asociación Nacional de Empresas de Turismo Activo (ANETA). El acto se realizó en el Pabellón Islas Canarias y contó con la participación del presidente, Casimiro Curbelo; la consejera de Turismo del Gobierno de Canarias, Yaiza Castilla y su homóloga en el Cabildo, María Isabel Méndez.
El responsable de ANETA, Óscar Santos, y el de Activa Canarias, José Luis Echevarría coincidieron en valorar las oportunidades de La Gomera como epicentro europeo de actividades en la naturaleza y que ahora se difunde por toda España a través del nuevo spot que ANETA dedica a la isla.
Los senderos de La Gomera protagonistas entre los caminos naturales de España
Entre más de un centenar de rutas por todo el país, los senderos de La Gomera se promocionan en el Pabellón de Caminos Naturales de España. En un acto de exposición de las rutas más destacadas, la isla lo hace con parte del itinerario del Camino Natural Costas de La Gomera, que une San Sebastián de La Gomera con la playa de Hermigua. Un periplo de más de 25 kilómetros con impresionantes vistas a la costa norte, desde las faldas del Parque Natural de Majona, espacio por el que transcurre la mayor parte del recorrido.
La exposición de esta ruta se une a la de una decena de localizaciones repartidas por todo el país, siendo La Gomera, la única isla de Canarias que participa en esta sesión promovida por el Gobierno de España, a través del Ministerio de Agricultura, Pesca y Alimentación.
