En el año 2017, el Gobierno de Canarias constató la desaparición de todos los núcleos poblaciones naturales de esta especie en la isla de Tenerife; por lo que, un año después, decide contratar los trabajos para la obtención de planta viva de esta especie única en el mundo. Con el centenar de ejemplares que se han conseguido, se continuará trabajando para, en un futuro, obtener semillas nuevas que darán lugar a núcleos poblacionales en el medio natural.
