Ciudadanos (Cs) ha exigido este miércoles a la consejería de Turismo del Gobierno de Canarias que “abandone su inacción y busque una solución urgente y, sobre todo, eficaz al avistamiento ilegal de cetáceos”, una práctica que “ha aumentado considerablemente este verano en el sur de Tenerife”, tal y como ha denunciado la Asociación de Empresarios de Avistamiento para la Conservación de los Cetáceos (Acest).

Así lo ha manifestado el portavoz regional de Cs en Canarias, Mariano Cejas, quien ha pedido explicaciones a Turismo por “permitir que embarcaciones ilegales realicen excursiones en una zona protegida sin cumplir la normativa turística ni medioambiental”, y, por tanto, “sin respetar las distancias mínimas obligatorias para el avistamiento”, hecho que “daña a los animales y perjudica una actividad que se ha convertido en uno de los atractivos para los turistas”.

En este sentido, ha solicitado que “se realicen inspecciones regulares en la zona y se lleven a cabo las sanciones correspondientes”, y ha recalcado “la necesidad de que dichas sanciones lleguen a término y no se pierdan por el camino”, ya que “a pesar de que anteriormente ya se han tramitado expedientes”, la realidad es que “el proceso no culmina con la correspondiente multa”, por lo que “no se trata de una medida disuasoria para la práctica ilegal”.

Por otro lado, Cejas ha reclamado al Gobierno de Canarias que “lleve a cabo un estudio de la capacidad de carga”, con el fin de “evaluar cuántas embarcaciones pueden tener licencia para realizar el avistamiento de cetáceos”, y, evitar así “la masificación en el mar”.

“Actualmente existe falta de control y un gran desconocimiento de las capacidades de carga del entorno marino”, por lo que “si no se cuida una de las mayores riquezas del archipiélago, dejará de ser un atractivo potencial”, ha apuntado el portavoz regional de Cs.

Y ha añadido que “debe existir también mayor coordinación entre las administraciones competentes para proteger a los cetáceos e incrementar las medidas de control”, para evitar que “se siga poniendo en riesgo la conservación del ecosistema marino”.

“El Gobierno de Canarias, especialmente la consejería de Turismo, debe asumir responsabilidades e impulsar medidas eficaces para conseguir la eliminación de prácticas ilegales y el intrusismo”, ha concluido Cejas.
